Beartooth
3D | Motion DesignOver one hour of on-stage and promotional 3D/motion + VFX content for Beartooth’s livestream, music videos, and latest US/UK Tours.
The Journey Below 🤘
Beartooth pulled out all the stops for their last album, Below. The tours and livestream included lore, gnarly vfx, trippy visuals, and plenty of pyro.
My mission: Create one-of-a-kind content to support the band's creative vision.
Cinematic Live Stream
Live music has been challenging the last couple of years. Beartooth wanted to give their fans a full-throttle live show, but from anywhere in the world.
To kick things off, I worked with the band, director, and various production teams to create a teaser-trailer that established some of the show's visual themes. No spoilers here.

Behind the scenes
How do you make a trailer for a live event that hasn't happend yet? 🤔
Nearly every frame of the trailer was modeled, textured, and rendered in Cinema 4D by me and styled in After Effects in-house at my studio Truue.
- Collaborate with Beartooth and team to establish the visual theme
- R&D VFX possibilties to maximize efficiency
- Push every piece of computer hardware to the absolute limit
Tools of the trade
What exactly is a 3D render anyway?
Digital image/video with models of objects that live in 3d space. (Up, down, left, right AND forward/backward.)
- Model (create) and texture (apply materials) 3D objects
- Create vivid scenes with realistic lighting, environments, and physics simulations
- Render (compute and save) the scene frame-by-frame for video
Multi-layer files
In order to get the most out of the render data, each frame is saved with multiple layers.
Due to the amount of data, each frame can be up to 200MB in size - so at 25fps, 1 second of raw "footage" is about 5GB 🤯
Layers contain robust information about the scene - depth maps, reflexions, shadows, color, and texture.
Layers are then edited and composited into one image to create the final frame.
Larger than life
Beartooth's tours feature a truly gigantic, LED video wall display.
You can create some interesting depth-effects when you measure a screen in meters, not inches.
